The Adventure Box

The Adventure Box

I've read on several adventure blogs & outdoor magazine articles about having some kind of "Adventure Box." Many of them had some of the same basics. They almost universally were geared toward adults. Well, that only works for me occasionally. I have a family. I have my wife. I have my toddler, soon to have an infant, and as she gets older, I occasionally have a teenage daughter who lives with her mother and doesn't do the outdoor life much... at least not the way that we do things.
So, I have to adapt my "adventure tote" into possibly multiple totes.
These are the things to have along with at all times in case of emergencies, in case of unexpected events and just so you don't have to pack them on each adventure. I fully expect to have to modify these totes and refine them as time goes on and adapt them to fit the adventures. Here is what I've got so far.
Sleeping bag and blanket. For obvious reasons, it's good to have these things available in emergencies. Especially in colder climates. However, they're also good for picnics & late nights watching the stars.
Jumper Cables
Bluetooth Speaker. No one likes the guy with the loud stereo at the campground, but many of us like to have some music around the campfire. Just be respectful of those around you.
Whiskey. Don’t laugh. Aside from having something to drink after an adventure, there are other practical uses for whiskey in your tote. For instance, It can be used as a fire starter and in a pinch, it can be used to cleanse wounds or to dull pain.

High energy snacks. I choose Nature Valley or Clif Bars and A good, high energy trail mix.
Toilet Paper. You should know why
Gloves & Hat. Staying warm is nice.
Flashlight and batteries.
Maps. Preferably for the areas you are traveling
Frisbee. sometimes you need something to do
First aid kit. I’ll include Kids band aids, Children’s vitamins for a placebo effect when the needs arise, Tweezer, needle & magnifying glass for slivers, pain relievers and pepto bismol chewables
Extra change of clothes in case someone falls in the mud or gets wet
Matches in a waterproof container
Firestarter
Seasonally, I’ll rotate out water a hammock, tarp, bug spray, rope, sunscreen and a metal container for melting snow.
Like I said, this list will change and as I got to packing mine, I found that I’m gonna need a bigger tote.
